During this program, I got a lot of things done either good or bad.
My observation day was started from the day after tommorow right after opening ceremony. I attended opening ceremony with Dean of College in Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, it Lecturers and Participants school. Although, we have lot of hours left to walk around the campus, we were preferred to spend our time in our room and prepared for the next day.
On Tuesday, i observed CMRU SATIT and introduce my self to entirely new environmental. It was such an incredible experience I ever had. Teachers and staffs there were so nice and welcoming us so warm. I have a slightly meeting with Head School there.
Our first week mainly aimed to observed my cooperating teacher that given to me by the school. My coordinating teacher was Miss Joy. She was so nice and joyful, just like her name.
In the first week, I was focused on learn the new culture, habits, and rules that was surprisingly did not appear in Indonesia. As follow; rules that children in elementary school are strictly to have the records of their self by someone stranger like us. Even when we were there for a program, I would say it was quite hard for me to get the documentation of students, though. I learned entirely different yet way too amazing things from Thailand, especially Chiang Mai.
Second week was my time to became a teaching assistant. I was an assistance for Miss Joy as my coordinating teacher in CMRU SATIT. She helped me a lot for teaching stuffs and other. During my time as teaching assistant, I learned new things about educational purpose in Thailand. I was also tried to engage more with students and staffs there. It was quite hard due to the differences between us; especially language. In this program, I realize that language is the most crucial thing to enhance relationships with others. Luckily, students and teachers were so cooperative and tried so hard to talking with us even when they also have hard time to talk in English everytime they need to talk with us.
Task Based Language Teaching is the most reccomendation teaching method by my mentor and my coordinating teacher. It has types, as follows:
Listing
Matching
Ordering
Comparing
Problem Solving
Creative
My third week was my first time to teach by myself without Miss Joy help. She was still looking and helped me, but the frequently was not as much as in my second week. Fortunately, I was realize and already enhance relationship with students there. I still have to introduce myself again, though. The students were confused. It made me feel like I was not got to make it as their teacher. Language was still my underline and bold problem in my teaching time. However I tried hard to understand, it would not that easy to learn new entirely difference language with different alphabet. it was a sure thing that students feel the same. We have difference mother language which makes us heavier to engage each other. Yet, I was enjoyed my teaching time there due to the lovely student who tried hard even just to say hello with me.
In every week, we have culture trip on weekend. We went to That Phra Doi Suthep which the one of the most holy places in Thailand. We also visited the second campus of Chiang Mai Rajabhat University which located in Marime, it was quite far from the campus that we know. Previously, the Marime Campus will become the main campus of Chiang Mai Rajabhat University. We learned how to cook Pad Thai with chef, therefor got the originally cooking recipe of pad Thai by chef there. On Sunday, we learned Traditional Dance from Thailand. We learnt Thailand Culture and tradition through people around us.
Last week was evaluation time by mentor. I was mentored by Mr. Piyanat Chantakhat. He is so kind for gave me suggestions about my lesson plan and my teaching practice. Before evaluation time, I was required to submit lesson plan which correlate in my grade and subject I teach.
I was having such a great time in Chiang Mai, Thailand due to the people I meet and how kind they are. This program truly fulfil my expectation and my craving for study abroad. I love to have this program again in the future, yet I can not. I will sounding this program to Student Teacher in my university by my self and through the Instagram account that I made; @seateacher.unila.
Thank you for the good memories, Thailand!
